# Sharing

Widgets, themes, materials and dashboards all live in one browser. Some come with GlassHome, some are made by us on glasshome.app, and some are shared by other homes. You can bring any of them into your home, and share your own themes, materials and dashboards back.

## Open the browser

The browser opens on the tab you came for:

- **Widgets**: **Add widget** on a dashboard, or **Settings > Widgets > Browse**.
- **Themes**: **Settings > Theme > Browse**, or **See all** under Shared themes in the creator studio's Start tab.
- **Materials**: the Materials tab in the same browser. A material is what every card, switch and slider is made of: glass, paper, neon, or something another home tuned.
- **Dashboards**: **Settings > Dashboards > Browse**, or **Start from one someone made** when you create a dashboard.

Each tab has a search, and chips for where things come from: **Built in** (ships with GlassHome), **Official** (made by us), **Community** (made by other homes) and **Yours** (what you shared). **Popular** and **Newest** change the order. Keep scrolling and more loads. Tap anything to see it beside the list, or full screen on a phone.

The Dashboards tab only shows to people who can edit dashboards.

## What you need

Built-in themes, built-in materials and starter dashboards need nothing: no account, no Pro. A starter dashboard installs the official widgets it uses after asking you, and only a household admin can install widgets.

Keeping a theme or material from another home, adding a shared dashboard and sharing your own all need [Pro](/docs/hub/pro) and a GlassHome account linked to your home. Sharing also needs a username on that account; what you share goes out under it. The browser says which of these is missing and has a button for it.

If you are an owner or admin of an [organization](/docs/hub/organizations), you can share under the organization's name instead: pick it under **Publish as**. Every owner and admin of that organization can then update or take it down.

## Try a theme or material, add a dashboard

A built-in theme has **Use**, which wears it straight away, and **Customize**, which opens a copy in the creator studio. A shared theme has **Try on my dashboard**: the studio opens with it on your dashboard, and saving keeps it.

A material has **Try on my dashboard** too. The studio opens on a copy of the theme you're wearing, with the material on it, so your colours and picture stay as they are. If whoever made it picked a few things you can adjust, they wait under **Tune** at the top of the Material tab. **Save and use** keeps it as a new theme on your shelf.

A dashboard shows what it looks like on a desktop, a tablet and a phone, and which widgets it needs. **Add to my home** creates it as a new dashboard with an empty spot for each widget; you pick your own devices for each one, the same as setting one up from scratch.

## Send to my home from glasshome.app

Every shared theme, material and dashboard has its own page on glasshome.app, under [Themes](https://glasshome.app/themes), [Materials](https://glasshome.app/materials) and [Dashboards](https://glasshome.app/dashboards). Widget pages have the same button. Sign in and press **Send to my home**: the next time you open the browser on a dashboard linked to that account, it waits at the top of its tab. Try it or add it, or dismiss it. A send you don't use disappears after 30 days.

## Share your own

- **A theme**: open the menu under the theme's name at the top of the creator studio and choose **Share with other homes**. Or right-click (long-press) the theme in **Settings > Theme** and choose **Share with other homes**.
- **A material**: open the material menu at the top of the creator studio's Material tab and choose **Share with other homes**. Pick up to three things other people may tune, like the glow or the accent; the rest stays exactly as you made it.
- **A dashboard**: right-click (long-press) the dashboard and choose **Share dashboard**, or use the share button on its row in **Settings > Dashboards**.

The dialog shows exactly what goes out, and what stays in your home. Once it's shared you get its glasshome.app link to copy or open.

A shared theme's entry, and a shared dashboard's row, show how many times it was downloaded. Their menu updates the published copy, copies the link, or takes it down. **Yours** in the browser lists everything you shared, even if you deleted your own copy since.

## What travels, what stays home

A shared material carries only the material: no colours, no picture, nothing about your home. A shared theme or dashboard carries its layout on each screen size, which widgets sit where, and their style, on/off and number choices. The wide-screen layout is rebuilt from the desktop one when you add a dashboard.

It never carries your devices, rooms or areas, your home's names, anything you typed into a widget (titles, labels), photos, or your home's location. The name and description you give it are public: they are how others find it. A theme with a photo background shares with a plain background instead.

## Updating and taking down

Sharing something again updates the copy you shared before. Homes that already added it keep their copy; everyone who finds it from then on gets the new one.

Taking something down asks first. Nobody new can find it after that, and homes that already added it keep their copy.
