The ethos
GlassHome is built by one person: me, Ihsen. It started as one tablet in my office, for the lights, and grew from there. With one person behind it, trust matters more than an About page, so here's what I stand behind.
- outlasting
Your home outlives my project.
The widget SDK, the CLI, the UI library and the widgets are already open source. The dashboard app is the one closed piece, and if I ever can't keep working on GlassHome, I'll publish that too, so the community can fork it and keep it running. Your kitchen tablet should keep working whatever happens to me.
- honesty
No tricks, only tradeoffs I'll explain.
Some things cost money, some code stays closed, and some features take longer than you'd like. Each of those is a tradeoff I made on purpose, and I'll explain any of them if you ask. None of them is there to squeeze you.
- humility
When I break something, I say so.
I will ship bad decisions and break things. When I do, I'll say it plainly and change course, in the changelog and on Discord. I won't hide it behind a corporate non-apology or quietly edit the history.
- together
I brought the vision. We made it a community.
GlassHome started as my idea, and together we turned it into something bigger: people on Discord who test the betas, publish widgets and answer each other's questions. They keep it alive. A lot of what I build starts with one of their messages.
- purpose
Money buys time to build.
PRO pays for the servers and for my time. That is also what keeps the free version free.
